FAQ: Zero Gravity - The First 3D Magnetic Miniatures Game
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

Is this comfortable to play?

Zero Gravity has a complex and unusual design. We can assure you that it has been playtested by many people and has proven as ergonomic as a boardgame can be. We made the arena big enough to be comfortable for players to move miniatures across it and no strange movements had to be done by our testers to have a proper view of the minis. It is however important to point out that it should be played on a flat and stable surface (e.g. not on the bed) and that placing the arena on top of the box cover could be useful if players are very tall.

Is this the first magnetic board game?

There are many magnetic games and several magnetic miniatures. We have leveraged on all those great games in order to create something different and unique, which we hope you will enjoy.

What size are the minis?

All minis are 40mm height, with a 20x20mm base, except when stated otherwise.

Why do the minis stand on different ground material?

You may notice that some minis stand on rocks, wood, dirt or even human skulls. This is not an ambientation mishap: the Zero Gravity arena is a versatile place, which is continuously adapted by the organisers in the control room to render the fight more spectacular. Also, no one in the teams has a space suit because it is not needed: everyone (be it a robot or a genetically modified shark) can “walk” on every surface as they would normally do on earth without additional equipment thanks to the gravitational engines of the Arena.

Do the minis come painted?

The figures and items come unpainted. Painting them is the fun part!

Can I get multiple copies of my basic pledge?

Yes, by pledging any multiple of the pledge amount you will receive another copy of the game and all associated stretch goals.

Do you have some more details on the magnetic board?

The arena of Zero Gravity has a layer of magnetic material inside the cardboard that allows the miniatures to hang on the walls perfectly. We should opt for a 0.8mm magnetic sheet captured in between a 200gsm colored board + 800gsm greyboard (on the external side) and a 200gsm colored board (on the internal side). The metal sticker placed below the base of the miniature, which is exactly the same size of the base itself (i.e. 20x20mm), will be 0.8-10mm thick depending on the final choice we will make. Considering the magnetic properties of different types of magnetic materials we tested, we still have some different options that all meet the required strength/flexibility, considering the limited weight of the miniatures (them being plastic miniatures).

How does it score in terms of replayability

Replayability is strong thanks to the possibility to change the amount of Cheers and types of achievements and actions that make players score Cheers (which therefore changes the tactical priorities) and thanks to the brand-new way of thinking (strategically and tactically) brought by the movement and attack mechanics we created. As Undead Viking framed, it “warps the way you thought about miniatures games”, making this unique. We did our best!

What are the benefit of having a 3D arena, on top of being cool?

There are at least three very good reasons that led us to create a game with a 3D arena. First of all, it’s a unique way of solving the problem of the line of sight in a miniature game. In fact, it is always possible to attack from two adjacent walls whereas, on the same surface, attacks are blocked if there is something between attacker and target. Secondly, it allows the player to choose different paths to move from point A to point B, e.g. climbing a wall first or turn all around the arena, thus allowing for a lot more strategies. Last but not least, a 3D arena lets the player attack from a multitude of positions, jump from side to side or drop from the top surface.

When can I pay for shipping?

We will be charging shipping via our pledge manager. The pledge manager normally becomes live about 2 months after the campaign ends.

Can I see the game rules?

Sure, you can find them in the campaign main page.

Last updated: October 22, 2018 08:58

Why is shipping not charged during the campaign?

Shipping costs may vary substantially depending on the month we ship, meaning it’s impossible to have an exact estimate months in advance. Charging for shipping on Kickstarter also means we would have to take into account Kickstarter Fees on shipping costs, too, which would make it more expensive for you.

Will you activate a late pledge option?

Yes, we will activate a late pledge option from the end of the campaign until production begins to help us finish our inventory and avoid overstocking. The game will be sold at a higher price during the late pledge.

I wrote a comment or message that didn't get a reply. Why?

Sometimes we just have a high volume of messages to respond to! You can expect an answer during EU office hours and generally within 72h from when you contacted us. If you feel your message fell through the cracks and we missed it, write to us again after 48h at [email protected].

Why are the flags and spawning points close to teams starting on the same surface?

The reason is that the Bomb is on the bottom surface, whereas the gate to detonate the bomb is on the top surface. Having the teams spawning on the lateral surfaces ensures that each of them is equidistant from both the bomb and the gate. This way, no one has the advantage. Moreover, the two teams spawning on the same wall have a choice: either attack each other or respectfully co-exist to boost their chances of survival. Last but not least, bringing a Flag from the starting areas A1/A2 to B1/B2 or vice versa only grants 1 Cheer point, whereas bringing an enemy Flag from the starting areas A1/B1 to A2/B2 or vice versa grants 15 Cheers!

Is this safe for those with an active biomedical implant (e.g. pacemaker)?

We will provide final details on biocompatibility before the game will be shipped, nevertheless we avoided using hyper-performing magnets (e.g. neodymium-based) because we actually don’t need such a high strength per square cm. Common magnets at 0.8mm thickness could already provide a 40g/cm2 magnetic strength, which is more than enough considering that the minis have a 2x2cm base (i.e. 4 square cm), therefore being able to hold up to 4x40g=160g attached to the walls. But on average, our minis are lighter by one order of magnitude. That being said, our manufacturer will provide technical and regulatory certificates to prove that the necessary tests were done on the materials.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
